The Story of the Kinkaku-ji

Kinkaku-ji Temple is a temple of the Rinzai sect of Sokokuji in Kita-ku, Kyoto, Japan. The temple is plastered with gold leaf inside and out.

The shrine was originally a representative building of Kitayama culture in the early Muromachi period, but it was completely destroyed during the Kinkaku-ji Temple arson incident in Showa 25 (1950) and rebuilt in Showa 30 (1955).

In December of Heisei 6 (1994), the entire territory of Kinkaku-ji Temple was designated as an Important Historical Building as a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO as part of the "Cultural Property of the Ancient Capital of Kyoto."
